Slot Drains

Stainless steel slot drains are hygienic drainage systems for facilities with high sanitary requirements. Minimalist design without gratings meets strict standards of food, pharmaceutical and processing industries as well as pools and wellness zones.

Technical data:

Material thickness: 1.5 mm or 2.0 mm

Stainless steel grades: V2A (1.4301) or V4A (1.4571)

Included: adjustable legs, anchoring lugs for concrete

7 bending profiles available

Optional:

  • flange or perforated flange
  • epoxy resin with quartz sand as edge filling
  • channel body primed with epoxy resin and quartz sand

Application of slot drains in industry

Slot drains are used in:

  • food industry – dairies, breweries, food processing plants
  • pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry
  • washing and disinfection zones
  • technical rooms and production halls

These systems perform well in areas with moderate liquid flow such as process lines or washing zones. In high water flow areas we recommend combining with box drains or hybrid systems.

Hygienic drainage for clean zones

The slot system is ideal wherever hygiene control and minimal contamination buildup are critical. Water and process liquids enter through a narrow floor slot, enabling precise drainage while maintaining the highest sanitary standards. Absence of gratings and smooth interior surfaces minimize deposits and microbial growth.

Key benefits:

  • shorter cleaning and disinfection time
  • reduced process deposits
  • lower maintenance costs

Materials and chemical resistance

B&K GROUP systems are manufactured from stainless steel V2A (1.4301) or V4A (1.4571), ensuring resistance to detergents, chemicals, moisture and heavy-duty use. These materials allow safe installation in environments with elevated hygiene requirements.

Slot variants and configuration

Available inlet slot widths: 20 mm – for production halls and industrial facilities, 8 mm – for pools and public areas. The system can be any length and include corners, connectors and custom elements. Slot drains integrate seamlessly with other B&K GROUP products, combining with industrial floor drains (German: Bodenablauf) or box drains while preserving hygiene zone functionality.

Compatibility with industrial floors

Slot systems can be installed in concrete, resin or tiled industrial floors, creating a uniform, aesthetic and functional working surface for both new builds and renovations.

Slot drains vs traditional drainage

Unlike conventional grated systems, slot drains:

  • reduce contamination accumulation points
  • simplify hygiene maintenance
  • focus on precise liquid removal in clean zones

Traditional linear drains handle higher flows in technical areas, while the slot system provides superior control over hygiene and working environment.

B&K GROUP slot drains are durable, chemically resistant and hygienic linear drainage solutions. They offer flexible configuration, easy integration with other system components and compatibility with various floor types – the ideal choice for food, pharmaceutical and processing industries.

Frequently asked questions

How do slot drains differ from standard drainage channels?

Slot drains feature a narrow inlet (8-30 mm) instead of an open grating — water flows through the slot while the surface remains fully trafficable for forklifts, pallets and wheels. Classic grated channels offer higher capacity but interrupt the flat floor surface. Slot drains are chosen where aesthetics and safe movement are priorities.

Which slot drains are best for car washes?

For car washes we recommend 20-25 mm slot width (high water and sand flow), load class D400 (cars) or E600 (trucks), and V4A material (resistance to road salt and detergents). Combine with receiving floor drains (German: Bodenablauf) DN 200 for fast outflow. See also our car wash solutions.

What slot widths are available?

Standard widths: 8 mm (labs, small objects), 12 mm (typical halls), 15-20 mm (most popular), 25-30 mm (wet zones with high flow). Narrower slots improve safety for footwear and wheels but reduce capacity. 8-12 mm for workwear areas; 15-25 mm for transport halls.

Are slot drains easy to clean?

Yes — the removable slot provides full access. Cleaning procedure: (1) remove slot (spring clip or screws), (2) flush channel with high-pressure water, (3) clean receiving drain (German: Ablauf), (4) reinstall slot. Time: 5-10 min per 5 m section. Frequency: monthly in standard halls, weekly in food processing.

What load class should I choose?

EN 1433 defines classes A15-F900. Typical halls with forklifts up to 5 t — D400 or E600. Pedestrian warehouses — A15-B125. Heavy transport halls — F900. Always select according to maximum point load per wheel. Choosing one class higher is safer and the cost difference is marginal compared to replacement after deformation.

Do the channels include built-in slope?

Yes — we offer factory-integrated slopes of 0.5 %, 1.0 % or 1.5 %. This eliminates installation errors. The slope is achieved by gradual depth change while keeping the top edges level. Standard solution for new food and pharmaceutical installations.
